UOB Painting of the Year, Call for Entries

Bangkok (Thailand) -June 16, 2016 (travelindex.com.) – Competition objective: To raise the awareness and appreciation of Southeast Asian artists and their artworks. Year of inauguration: Annual competition in Singapore since 1982* *Note: UOB started the UOB Painting of the Year competition in Thailand in 2010 and in Malaysia and Indonesia in 2011

Age restriction: No age restriction
Entry fee: Free
Call for entries: Artists in Thailand who wish to take part in the competition must submit their artwork and entry form between 23 to 25 September 2016, 8.30am to 4pm daily, at any of the 4 collection points:
– Central: Art Centre, Silapakorn University, Thapra Palace, Bangkok 31 Na Pra Larn Road, Pra Nakorn, Bangkok 10200
– North: CMU Art Centre, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai 239 Nimmanhaemin Road, Muang, Chiang Mai 50200
– Northeast: Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen 123 Moo 16 Mittapap Road, Nai-Muang, Muang, Khon Kaen 40002
– South: Faculty of Arts, Thaksin University, Songkla 140 Moo 4, Khoa-Roob-Chang, Muang Songkhla 90000

Shortlisted artists in Thailand will be notified by phone by 6 October 2016 and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 25 October 2016 at Bangkok Arts and Cultural Centre (BACC), Bangkok.

Art medium:
– Paintings in acrylic, batik, Chinese brush, crayon, ink, mixed media, oil, watercolour, or any other media are accepted.
– Collages, two-dimensional embossed painting, three-dimensional paintings are acceptable, subject to a maximum thickness of 5 cm.
– Paintings submitted should be two-dimensional which size is not over 180 centimetres in height or width (inclusive of their frames, if any).
– Framing is optional.
– No restriction on subject matter.

Criteria for Established Artist Category: Open to experienced professionals with an established portfolio of work. They must have shown their paintings in solo or group exhibitions (excluding school graduation shows); be represented by a gallery; or have achieved recognition through art awards

Criteria for Emerging Artist Category: Open to aspiring artists who are pursuing an arts education; are taking their first steps to a career in art; or simply paint for pleasure

UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year Award: US$10,000

UOB Painting of the Year Award*: THB 750,000
Gold Award: THB 300,000
Silver Award: THB 240,000
Bronze Award: THB 150,000

*Note: One of the four UOB Painting of the Year Award country winners from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand will be selected for a one-month residency programme at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. The recipient will be selected through an interview process conducted by the competition judges

Gold Award: THB 75,000
Silver Award: THB 45,000
Bronze Award: THB 30,000

Fukuoka Asian Art Museum residency programme: The residency programme enables artists and researchers across 21 countries in Asia to interact with people in Fukuoka via art exchange programmes such as open studios, workshops, performances and lectures
